Тема уроку: The World of Books


Lesson topic: The World of Books
Aim: - to revise vocabulary and master the usage of Passive Voice.
Instructional: to generalize vocabulary on the topic "The World of Books", to improve communicative and socio-cultural competence of  pupils, to form  Passive Voice skills, to teach pupils how to express their thoughts and work with interactive whiteboard, tests.  
Developing: to develop cognitive activity, to learn to analyze and summarize material.
Educational: to expand children`s horizons, to develop skills of cooperation.
Equipment: the textbook Solutions Pre-Intermediate, Unit 10, р. 94, a CD player, interactive whiteboard, cards, students` presentations, teacher`s presentation.
Type of the lesson: generalized lesson.



PROCEDURE
I. ORGANIZATION MOMENT
Greeting and introduction
T: Good morning, girls and boys! Glad to meet you here. I hope you are all ready for our lesson. Please, complete the following sentences with one word, and you will guess the topic of our lesson.

Т: Are you fond of reading books? So, the theme of our lesson is "Books In My Life" (see slide 2).
Warming-up
Proverbs demonstration.
·        The more you read the more you know.
·        A good book is a source of wisdom.
Т: Now, read these proverbs and say how you un­derstand them. Do you agree with them?

EXPECTED RESULTS
This lesson will help you to:
·        learn about people`s reading tastes;
·        improve your skills in listening, speaking, do­ing tests, using different sources of  informa­tion;
·        know more about the world's famous writers  and works written by them;
·        improve pupils` knowledge of Passive Voice.
At the end of the lesson you will fill in these forms in order to see how active you've been at the lesson.

Exercise 3 page 94        Listen and repeat the list of publications in the box. Underline the stress in each word.

Teacher allows a minute for students to read the instructions and the task.
The teacher plays the recording once. Students listen and mark their answers.
Exercise 7 page 94         Work in pairs. Do the questionnaire answering questions from exercise 5. Tell the class about your partner.
Group work
T:  And now let's divide into 4 groups. Your task is to use some facts given on the cards in making short stories about books and authors. Share this information with your friends.
(Students work  in  groups with  the given card where they have key-information  about books and their authors. Reporter of each group presents the report in the form of Power Point presentation.)
Grammar
Demonstration of the presentation. Revision of Passive Voice.
We use passive forms when:
n  a) we don`t know WHO did it;
The window was broken an hour ago.
n  b) we are interested in WHAT happens, not WHO it is done by;
His watch was stolen in the street.
n  с) the situation is rather formal.
Smoking is not allowed.
Passive Voice      be+V3
Somebody cleans      the room             every day. (active)
 subject
The room   is cleaned every day. (passive)
Object
Rewrite these sentences using Passive voice:
1.     People don`t use this road very often.
2.     They built a new hospital near the airport last week.
3.     They cancelled all flights because of fog.
4.     Somebody cleans the room when I arrived.
5.     Translators translate this article every day.
Remember
If we want to say who does the action,
we use by :
This house was built by my grandfather.
Two hundred people are employed by the company.
If somebody does the action with the help of instruments, we use with  :
Meat should be cut with  a knife.
Food in Japan is eaten with chopsticks.
Choose the right preposition:
