I.                  Warm up.
T: The ancient world was the world of seven wonders. The modern world is the world of computers. They have already changed the way we live, work and even have a rest. It’s the world of engineering, marketing and information technologies. All this has changed different spheres of our life. Today we’ll speak about changes in job areas. The subject of our lesson is jobs nowadays. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Students tell about what they want to be in future.
S1: I want to be a fire fighter because I want to save people’s lives. Firefighters have to be brave and strong as their work is dangerous. I work out twice a week at the gym because I want to be ready to pass the entry test.
S2: I want to be a teacher to teach and bring up children.  The profession of a teacher is noble and important. A teacher gives knowledge, develops pupils’ intellect, forms their views and characters, their attitudes to life and other people.
S3: I want to become a journalist. This profession is very dynamic; you can always find something new. You meet different interesting people – actors, singers, sportsmen, artists. It’s a great experience.
T: Read the poem, why does this person have to do so many jobs?
JOB DESCRIPTION
A very special person,
For a very special post.
Someone who knows how to cook,
Someone who can clean the house,
And drive the children to school,
And buy the food and clothes and shoes,
And use most household tools.
     A teacher of all subjects,
A referee of all flights,
Who as a relief from boredom,
Is an ‘on call’ nurse at night.
A hairdresser and swimming coach,
At ease with dogs and cats,
(And hamster, rabbits, fish and snakes,
Stick insects, birds and rats)
Has laundry skills, is a taxi cab,
Makes costumes for school plays.
Who never goes off duty,
And whom no one ever pays.

Discussion
T: You are in the 9th form. During the nine years of studying you’ve heard such a question a lot of times “What do you want to be when you grow up?” You know there are more than 2000 professions in the world.
“Choosing a profession is not an easy task.” – Write and discuss the problem.
Pupils work in groups of 6 and discuss this problem.  After discussing the problem in groups, one representative from each one expresses their opinion, giving proofs.
Group 1: It’s really difficult to choose a profession. There is a wide choice of professions. More than 2000 jobs and trades exist in the world. . It’s important not to make a mistake. Each job requires some special personal qualities, skills and responsibility. Your job should be enjoyable and rewarding. It must be in demand in present and in future. Your job must useful for people. You must love your job and do it with pleasure. When work is pleasure, life is joy.
Group 2: There is a great variety of different jobs in the whole world. But it’s not difficult to choose the right one. First, you should be interested in it. Secondly, it should bring satisfaction and enough money to have a comfortable life. Thirdly, it shouldn’t take all your time. The main thing is a career promotion.

Grammar revision
T: Watch the presentation on Past Simple /Past Continuous Tenses. The main rules:
remember- the past simple talks about something that happened before. It happened and it finished. Some words are regular and just have -ed added at the end like walked, helped, andplayed. Others are irregular and have many variations like ate, began, and slept.
The past continuous talks about something that was happening before, but for a period of time. It uses was or were + verb-ing like was eating or were playing. It gives a background for something that was happening while a different event happened.
Example: While I was eating, the telephone rang.
III. Lesson outcome
T: Thank you for good and productive work. What have you learnt today? What was easy or difficult for you? What new did you get to know from the lesson? What did you practise? Everyone got good marks from the lesson.
Home task:
Write a composition “My future profession”.
The lesson is over. Good bye!
